Bridge the Gap Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that focuses on closing the skills gap between disadvantaged communities, including transitioning soldiers and veterans, and the welding industry by providing industry specific educational training. Graduates of the program will become American Welding Society Certified Welders (CW) which is an Industry Based Certification (IBC) and serves as a recognized credential. This credential is portable within the industry and will allow participants to have various career opportunities that will positively impact their lives as well as the regional and national economy.
The mission of Bridge the Gap Foundation is to provide realistic, sustainable career opportunities through high level, industry specific education in a reasonable and timely manner to veterans and disadvantaged communities. The program is designed to provide comprehensive training in a condensed time frame to adequately prepare graduates for professional opportunities with highly competitive pay. The program is overseen by an American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator (CWE), several American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI), American Society of Nondestructive Testing Level III (ASNT Level III), and several American Welding Society Certified Welders (CW). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment growth in welding is expected to grow tremendously over the next 10 years with a surge in specific regions based on industry demand. Employers prefer hiring individuals with an industry recognized IBC with specialized training that assures the skill level and employability. Those individuals typically perform at a higher level and offer greater retention for employers. The solid background of transitioning soldiers and veterans also provides a viable pool of candidates for the industry based on military training along with values and commitment to exceptional performance.
Bridge the Gap Foundation focuses on preparing individuals for a career in the welding industry with a specific focus on heavy industrial pipe welding and an emphasis on weld inspection. The program consists of 16 weeks of intensive accelerated training along with other programs and services including resume writing, interviewing skills, life skills, possible job placement and attainment of a high school diploma for the participants who need it. The additional programs and services will produce a well-rounded, better prepared graduate to perform at full capacity on the project site which will aid in increased efficiencies and productivity for the company. Bridge the Gap Foundation will fulfill the gap in the workforce in various industries for skilled craftsman with a focus on specific demographics ranging from 19-40 years of age. The program will make a significant impact on the industry on a global scale as well as improving the economic standing of each participant and their respective communities resulting in a better economy.
